SEFS 2027 Abstract Submissions
Call for Abstracts ‒ Symposium Posters & Podium Presentations
The Southeastern Fracture Consortium Foundation invites residents, fellows, medical students, orthopaedic surgeons, researchers, and other appropriate participants to submit original orthopaedic trauma research for consideration at the 2027 Southeastern Fracture Symposium (SEFS).
Selected abstracts may be offered a podium presentation or a poster presentation during SEFS 2027.

What Is an Abstract?
An abstract is a brief summary of a research project or study that communicates the purpose of the research, how the study was conducted, the results, and the conclusions.
The SEFS abstract program provides an opportunity to share current research with the orthopaedic trauma community, gives trainees and researchers valuable presentation experience, and helps bring strong, current research into the SEFS educational program.
Who May Submit?
SEFS welcomes abstract submissions from residents, fellows, medical students, orthopaedic surgeons, faculty, researchers, and other appropriate participants involved in orthopaedic trauma research.
We especially encourage residents, fellows, and medical students to submit their work. You do not need to be an established researcher to participate.
Requirements for Submission
Please review the following requirements carefully before submitting your abstract.
Abstract Requirements
Abstracts must:

Address a topic relevant to orthopaedic trauma
-
Describe original research appropriate for SEFS
-
Include completed data and actual results
-
Be 300 words or fewer
-
Include no more than one figure or table
Abstracts should be organized using the following sections:
Background/Objective
Briefly describe the background, research question, and purpose of the study.
Methods
Describe the study design and how the research was conducted.
Results
Summarize the primary data and key findings.
Conclusion
State the conclusions supported by the results and their potential significance.
Author Information
Please provide a complete and accurate author list at the time of submission. The author list submitted with the abstract should be considered final, and significant author changes after acceptance will generally not be permitted.
Please carefully review all names, credentials, and affiliations before submitting.
Previous Publication or Presentation
Authors will be asked whether the work has previously been published, presented, or submitted elsewhere.
This information will be reviewed as part of the eligibility screening process.
Presenter Expectations
Attendance
By submitting an abstract, the authors confirm that at least one listed author is prepared to attend SEFS 2027 in person and present the work if selected for a podium or poster presentation.
Substitute Presenters
If the designated presenter later becomes unable to attend, the substitute presenter must generally be an author already listed on the original abstract submission and must complete all required presenter disclosures and other requirements.
Please notify SEFS as soon as possible if a presenter change becomes necessary.
Financial Disclosures
Accepted presenters must complete all applicable financial disclosure requirements by the deadline provided by SEFS.
This may include maintaining a current AAOS Financial Disclosure or completing another required speaker disclosure form.
Registration Policy
Podium Presenters
The designated presenter for an accepted podium presentation will receive complimentary conference registration.
Poster Presenters
Poster presenters are responsible for registering for SEFS at the applicable registration rate. Poster presenters do not receive complimentary or discounted registration solely because their abstract has been selected.
Accuracy, Originality & Artificial Intelligence
Authors are responsible for the accuracy, originality, and scientific integrity of all submitted material.
Artificial intelligence or other technology may be used to assist with drafting or editing, but authors remain fully responsible for the final submission, including:

Accuracy of all information and data

Appropriate representation of results and conclusions

Originality of the work
-
Appropriate authorship and attribution
-
Review and approval of the final submission
The submission form includes a required author attestation addressing these responsibilities.
How Abstracts Are Reviewed
Following the submission deadline, abstracts will undergo an administrative review to confirm that submission requirements have been met.
Eligible abstracts will then proceed to blinded scientific review. Identifying information, including author names and institutions, will be removed before abstracts are provided to reviewers.

Selected abstracts may be invited for either a podium or poster presentation at SEFS 2027.
Podium & Poster Presentations
Podium Presentations
Selected authors will present their research orally during SEFS 2027 on Saturday, January 30, 2027.
Poster Presentations
Additional selected abstracts may be invited for poster presentation during SEFS 2027 on Saturday, January 30, 2027.
Presentation format will be determined through the SEFS abstract review and selection process.
What Happens Next?
After the submission deadline:

Abstracts will undergo administrative review.

Eligible abstracts will proceed to blinded scientific review.

The SEFS review committee will evaluate and score submissions.

Authors will be notified of the selection decision in early December 2026.

Accepted presenters will receive instructions regarding registration, disclosures, presenter confirmation, and presentation requirements.
